URGENT GLOBAL CALL OF MEN FOR GENDER-BASED ABUSE ERADICATION
#ManStopMan, is an urgent global call, where it’s men’s turn now, to talk, listen to each other and take action together, to eradicate sexist violence. Without this commitment from men, it is UTOPIC to hope that things will change. There are so many victims of sexist violence around the world, sometimes men, yet mostly women.
#ManStopMan is the international mobilisation of men who play a major role, by sharing best practices with each other to protect girls and women from all types of violence. It is also a call to all men, to calm down and be more careful about how they socially interact with women.
VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN HAS DIFFERENT FORMS
Women are subjected to numerous crimes: rape as a weapon of war in areas of conflict, sexual attacks and the destruction of their reproductive system, sexual slavery in captivity and forced pregnancies, female genital mutilation, ritualistic crimes, honour crimes, domestic violence, marital rape, incest and “right of the first night”, domestic slavery, unwanted physical sexual advances, early pregnancies, forced marriage, degrading rituals against widows, bullying in public and private settings such as workplace bullying, unequal pay and institutional violence...
WHAT DOES #ManStopMan STANS FOR ?
It is a is self explanatory in English. In this context, in French the equivalent would be “Mec arrête Mec”. It is therefore a rallying cry from Man to Man, to eradicate all types of violence against women and girls. It is an invitation from man to man, to reconsider their thoughts, words and actions.
Why carry out violence against your mother, sister, wife, daughter, friend and all other women? Why stop this cause from getting the commitment and mobilisation from every man it deserves? These forms of violence should not be seen as “women’s issues”. This commitment must be above everything else.
MEN INVOLVED TO FIGHT VIOLENCE
Men are free to commit together, to eradicate violence against women and girls. Men should not be prevented from speaking out or suspected of individual acts they are not guilty of. Being a man should not be seen as a disqualifying factor to be able to commit to the eradication of sexist violence. The fact that men who stand for the eradication of this plague are not visible, only helps increase distances and gaps that are a huge prejudice for all humankind.
To help democratise this international mobilisation of men and to help bring about social change, this #ManStopMan petition requests that an “International Day for Men to eradicate sexist violence” be declared by the United Nations, the African Union, the Commonwealth, the European Union, the League of Arab Nations, the Association of South-East Asian Nations, the International Organisation for French Speaking nations, as well as all leaders of all nations.
SPOKESMEN OF #ManStopMan
#ManStopMan is also a commitment from every man, to teach and share respect for human dignity and the physical and moral integrity of girls and women, to young boys and men, so they stop all forms of violence wherever they may be.
